Additional Seasonal Tips
TCIA offers the following tips to keep your trees healthy this summer and in future summers to come:
- Pruning
During the summer, it is vital that trees produce enough leaves to manufacture sugars for energy and water to keep themselves cool. Their leaves also provide their bark with shade; therefore, if their bark is exposed to the sun, it can be extremely harmful to the tree. Consequently, pruning may not be necessary every year as it may take away leaves that help keep your trees fed and hydrated. - Mulch
Mulch used under and around trees absorbs and reflect the heat and sun, causing the tree to be hotter than usual. It is best to keep your trees mulch free and away from block walls and glass that also reflect and absorb heat, negatively affecting trees. - Tree Watering
During the summer, it is vital to water your trees at the roots to ensure that they store moisture in their leaves, branches, trunks and roots to keep themselves hydrated in the heat.
