Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
The
Total Tree Care Integrated Pest Management Program (IPM) manages pest
damage to tolerable levels. Total eradication is considered only when
dealing with highly damaging pests. Our program focuses on prevention
and suppression rather than eradication. We enable clients to closely
monitor pest conditions so that they may treat problems when they reach
unacceptable thresholds.
Individual customer IPM programs are tailored to include key plants and
the degree of monitoring and treatment for each. Our methodology integrates
appropriate preventive and control tactics into a single management strategy
that applies phenology calendars and growing degree day models.
Each customized IPM program includes:
- Initial consultation determines program scope, plants to be covered, and cultural practices for improving plant health
- Multiple scouting visits (up to 10) during the season to determine
presence of problematic insects/mites
- On site monitoring by a CT state licensed arborist determines if/when insect/mite thresholds require treatment
- Judicious use of EPA approved materials control pests if/when threshold levels exceeded
- A written report following each visit
The fee depends upon quantity and size of plants covered, number of inspections and pest treatments, which are provided at half the standard rate of non-IPM treatments.
